According to the U.S. government, about 17 million barrels of oil and
petroleum products crossed the Strait of Hormuz on Monday, 31 August.Energy
Secretary Chris Wright gave that figure to reporters on Tuesday, 1
September. He said the entire 17 million barrels moved by ship, and that it
was the highest daily volume through the strait since the war began. He
separately noted that pipelines around the strait can add another 4–5
million barrels a day of Gulf exports, but that extra volume does not
itself transit Hormuz.
